The Make Multimedia History group was started in 1997,
at an evening course run at the Centre for Continuing Education, University of Sussex
.

The designer and co-tutor of the course, Jack Latimer, trained students to
make websites that recorded aspects of local history and culture
.
A multimedia designer and training consultant, he co-produced the award-winning 'My Brighton' local history computer exhibit at Brighton Museum, as well as an interactive exhibit for Brighton's Royal Pavilion.

After two years, the course began running at the offices of QueenSpark Books, a local community publisher. The Make Multimedia History group is now a team of volunteers who learn web skills while working on projects about local history and culture. We are formally constituted, with a steering committee and our own bank account.

The Make Multimedia History group is affiliated to QueenSpark Books and supported by local multimedia company Desktop Display. The My Brighton and Hove project has received funding from Brighton & Hove Council's 'Place to Be' campaign.
