Mass-Observation Directives

The Mass-Observation Archive specialises in collecting writing by ordinary people about everyday life in Britain. This Archive has been in the care of the University of Sussex since 1970.

About three times a year, the Archive asks a nationwide team of volunteers to write about particular themes. The Archive values subjective experience; whatever the topic, the emphasis is on self-expression, candour, and the willingness to be a vivid social commentator.
