This the digital me! "I came to Brighton two years ago to start a Media Studies degree at the University of Sussex. In choosing a university, it was important to me to be confident that I would enjoy the place I would be moving to for three years. Brighton appealed because I've lived here before, I have friends here and I feel relaxed here. (Do I look like I'm having a hard time?) Not having a permanent home to escape to at the moment, considerations like these were at least as important as anything to do with the academic side of things."

Picture of the Endeavour in Whitby harbour, May 1997 "Wot no home?"
"Well, not a permanent one, but I've got lots of spiritual homes - anywhere where I feel comfortable and I'm in touch with people I like is home to me. Family places, friend's places, and loads of places that bring back good memories. Not surprisingly quite a few of these places are far north of Brighton, me being a Yorkshireman by birth. One of them, for many years, has been Whitby, where Captain Cook sailed from a couple of centuries ago. One the best weekend breaks I've had in the last couple of years was spent in Whitby when the replica of the Endeavour sailed in - a mere 227 years after the original departed."

Evidence of me hard at work in an edit suite "Work, work, work...."
"Of course it's not all fun...This is one of the edit suites at the Uni, and the photo was taken by Klara, the editor on our second year production project. I think I'm probably saying something like "No, I think we should do it this way...", which probably means Klara is making sure that there is incontrovertible evidence that it was my fault! I was actually more interested in the analytical side of Media Studies when I applied for the course, but I've definitely got the bug for production now - so much so that an old college friend, Jack, and I are launching..."

The Raving Bonkers logo "Raving Bonkers Productions"
"RBP is a loose collective of friends with interests in all sorts of media productions, from serious documentary to lighthearted video-poetry. Some of us have worked in the media before, for others it is new ground. Between us we draw together a huge range of talents and experiences - in fact the only thing we've all got in common, is we're all Raving Bonkers (As you can see!)."

My recommendations for the Inside Guide to Brighton & Hove:

Preston Park: Where you can see Brighton's dog-walkers and bowlers.
The Jack and Jill Windmills: A hint of times past, high on the South Downs above Brighton.
St. Bartholomew's Church: Imposing on the outside, impressive on the inside.
