![]() The Main Procession, Galway Festival of Arts and Music - a gaudy and raucous opening to a fabulously diverse event, set in the region's most original and irreverent city. |
"I like music in the open-air, especially street festivals. I like being able to pop in and out of music: listen for as long as I like, then wander off. I used to go to a lot of classical concerts, but have decided that I dislike having to sit still for several hours. Music I enjoy moves me, and makes me want to move! I like music in pubs for this reason. Music where you can dance about, and not worry about making a noise. The Galway Arts and Music festival is one of my favourites, combining street performances, formal concerts, and pub sessions, all set in glorious Conemarra. The regular Fleadh Ceoil (not sure about my Gaelic spelling) in Ireland, the series of free concerts in London put on by the GLC, the Cambridge and Sidmouth Folk Festivals --I've enjoyed all of these: in fact music which is spread around a large area, where you're free to dip in and out of events, is good news. Fiestas in Spain where everyone dances to bands, late at night (young and old) under the stars - great! And please, London Underground, don't get rid of all the buskers - they're the only thing which makes travelling by Tube tolerable."
I hate music in lifts, shops, over the phone -any hate canned music; takes popular tunes (good in the original) and makes them banal and unpleasant."
